Malaysian Foreign Trade Index (April 2022)
Malaysia continues to maintain its overall trade performance growth momentum in April 2022, by expanding its growth by 21.3% to a capitalization of 23.14 billion Ringgit compared to 19.08 billion Ringgit in the previous year.
Exports in April 2022 grew 20.7% to 12.75 billion Ringgit. Imports on the other hand, grew 22% to 10.39 billion Ringgit. A surplus in the trade balance was recorded with an increase of 15.7% from 23.5 billion Ringgit from last year.
Compared to March 2022, export, import, overall trade volume and trade balance were seen lower by 3.1%, 0.9%, 2.1%, and 11.6% respectively.
Between January to April in 2022, the performances of trade volume, export, import, and trade surplus were strong with double digit growths. Total trade volume increased by 22.9%, supported by the exports segment (+ 21.8%), imports segment (+24.3%), and a trade surplus growth of 12.1%.
