Aftermath of flood

2021/12/21

The federation of Malaysian manufacturers announced on Monday, the 20th of December that the flood that took place over the weekend has forced massive evacuations and road closures. This would have likely affected many companies in the affected area.

President of federation of Malaysian manfuacturers, Soh Thian Lai, noted that industries in the Shah Alam and Klang districts suffered heavily including damanges to the property, assets and products which in turn disrupted business activities.

These districts were located in the Selangor region, which was one of the states that were affected badly by the flood. Thousands of people were assisted by emergency services and volunteers in evacuation attempts across the country.

According to Soh, many workers could not go to work or return home due to this occurrence. He notes that losses could go up to millions of ringgit but the exact amount would only be finalized after receipt of flood subsidies.

Dutch semicondutor, BE Semiconductor, lowered their forth-quarter earnings dorecast on Monday due to the after-effects of the flood onto their main production facility in Shah Alam.

Malaysia's semiconductor line is an important contributor to the country's global high- tech supply chain (one-tenth of the sector's global trade segment). Road closures are expected to affect warehouse storage facilities and logistics, with expected shipment delays.
