Internet usage among Malaysians rises to 96.8%

【Kuala Lumpur=Malaysia BIZ Navi】 The Department of Statistics released its report on Usage and Access of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in 2021. The percentage of Malaysians using the Internet was at 96.8%, up 7.2 percentage points from the previous year (89.6%).
Mobile phone usage increased slightly (by -.5 points) to 98.7% from 98.2% last year. Computer usage increasing by 3.5% to 83.5% compared to 80.0% last year.The most common method of access to ICT among households were from mobile phones - 99.69%, higher than last year's numbers of 98.6%. Internet usage was at 95.5%, higher than last year's 91.7%, and computer usage also rose to 88.3% from last year's 77.6%.
The main use of the internet was from social media- 99.0% (last year was 98.0%). Second place was in downloading images, movies, videos, music, games at 91.8% (87.9% last year), third place is collection of information of servicesa nd products at 89.4% (85.4% previously), and forth place is in internet connection line and VoIP voice calls over the internet (Voice call through TCP/IP network technology) at 89.2% (81.2%), abd kastly fifth place is from downloads of software applications at 86.3% (78.4%).
